When I began this blog in 2003 I didn’t have a specific concept of what I wanted it to be about. I knew that I didn’t want to pigeonhole myself as simply a “gay blogger”. As it is there’s way too many shallow, gossipy, celebrity obsessed and uninteresting queer bloggers. Plus, I’m not interested in enough things stereotypically gay to sustain a such blog.
Taking this divergent path has given me the freedom to cover a wide range of topics affecting my life and the world at large. I’ve covered everything from my antidepressant use, 9/11 fatigue, an epic frenemy tale and the myth of midwestern kindness, to name a few topics. Of course I blogged about my personal adventures in faggotry as well. It’s only natural, since being gay is part of who I am. But I think I’ve spent an equal amount of time and pixels railing against the “gay community” as I have to figuring out my place in it.
That being said, it may seen odd that I’ve chosen The Ungay Guy as my new online moniker. But I was looking for something a little catchier, maybe a bit snappier than the wordily titled blog I’d been writing under. Plus, the term “ungay” seems to best sum up who I am as a person and a blogger. But don’t assume that the means I’ll be altering the tone/content of my blog. Although I’m still a square peg in a world of pink triangular holes, I won’t be whining about any more or less than usual.
The observant reader will notice that I’ve migrated all the content from my old domain to this one. (The old domain shall remain nameless, so as not to confuse anyone.) It’s going to be the same blog, same author, same impishly skewed point of view, only under a new masthead.
Of course, if you subscribe to the old RSS feed, you might want to update it. If you’ve linked to any of my past posts, the old domain will still work (for awhile anyway). And if you’re as enterprising as I am (anal retentive), you can update any links since all my old posts have new URL’s from The Ungay Guy domain. If you’ve been kind enough to include me in your blog roll, I’d really appreciate it if you could change it there too.
Anywho, that’s that. I hope you follow me from the old domain, Facebook, Twitter, Myspace or wherever you’re floating around in cyberspace. Thanks to everyone for their input and comments. I truly do enjoy the feedback and active dialoging that comes with blogging.
